Fall 2012 Auditions
We're holding auditions for all voice parts this fall and we're looking for some great singers to fill the spots of our graduated seniors. Whether you're an incoming freshman or finishing up your grad degree (and everything in between), if you've got an amazing voice and are at MIT or Wellesley, we want to hear it! We can't wait to hear your auditions and meet our new Jingle (new Toons) class!
MIT
Look for the Toons in Johnson Athletics Center at the Orientation Activities Midway 3-5pm on Friday, August 31, 2012. Come talk to us, ask us about a cappella, music at MIT, or anything about life at MIT in general, and be sure to sign up for an audition time slot for the weekend (we'll have multiple dates and times available). If you can't make it to the activities fair or none of the available times work for you, talk to a Toon or e-mail toons-request@mit.edu to set up another time.
Wellesley
Wellesley Auditions will be held in Jewett Auditorium on Sunday, September 2, 2012 from 11am to 2pm. There should be signs pointing to the audition room. Don't hesitate to e-mail toons-request@mit.edu if you have any questions or need to schedule a different time.
The Audition
First things first... RELAX! This isn't a test, though you've got plenty of those to look forward to during your next few years at MIT or Wellesley. We try to keep our auditions low-key and fun for everyone. At your audition, we'll warm you up on some scales to get an idea of your vocal range, run through some sight-singing, rhythm, and tonal memory exercises, and then you get to sing us a part of any song of your choice (you're more than welcome to bring lyrics). You don't have to sing the whole song, just a verse or two and a chorus is great. You can choose any song you want, whatever you feel you sound best on and shows off your vocal talent. You'll also get a chance to meet us and ask us any questions you have about Toons or the a cappella scene.
Callbacks
After your audition, we'll tell you more about when our callbacks will take place and later we'll get in touch with you about your callback. Callbacks are a chance for you to get to sing with the group and see how your voice blends with ours and how you fit in with the Toons. We'll teach you some of our music and you'll get to sing with the group and with other prospective new Toons. Also it's your chance to get to know us better and learn about why we love Toons so much! Don't be shy... ask us questions, rock out with us, and have a good time!
Remember you can always e-mail us with any questions, comments, or concerns at toons-request@mit.edu. We can't wait to meet you and hear you sing!
